Animal Photography

I’ve been taking photographs since my Pop gave me a little Kodak Instamatic for Christmas when I was 12 years old. The model that had the little cubes on top for the disposable flash.

One of my fav photography subjects is animals and birds. Both can be hard to capture due to the nature of their environment.

A fav spot to shoot animals and birds (with my camera), is in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.

Called, wait for it, Rockhampton Zoo.

Rockhampton zoo is small, free and quaint. Situated in their botanical gardens, and I might add the gardens are well worth a look too. Shire rates well spent; I think.

Every time I visit Rockhampton the zoo is on my must visit list.

Who would love  our laughing jackass, the Kookaburra.

This loud mouth bird generally wakes me each morning, my house backs onto the bushland, and I share my yard with the naturalness of Nature.

Australian Emu

Ever since I was a small child, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Emus, (the stuff of family folklore).  Emu’s for some bizarre reason really dislike me.

"You’re in my sights, watch out."

So consequently, I always photograph them behind security fencing, security for me of course.

I’ve tried to nurture a relationship with this beautiful bird, to no avail. In this shot the brown eye say it all.

My other love are the great apes. These chimpanzees just wanted to lay around in the heat of the day, making my job a lot easier.

Please share your photography experience with me.

Why not make a comment below, and let me know your preferences when grabbing that special shot?
